About Black Diamond
Coal deposits near the original townsite gave Black Diamond its name, and its first post office opened in 1907. It was a village from May 1929 and a town from 1956 until the 2023 merger with Turner Valley created Diamond Valley. Highways 7 and 22 intersect here, the Sheep River is close, and the surrounding foothills are ranch country. The 2021 census counted 2,730 residents, with a hospital, schools and shops in town.
