About Bragg Creek
Where the Elbow River meets Bragg Creek, in the foothills near Kananaskis Country, sits a hamlet named for Albert Warren Bragg, whose younger brother John homesteaded the area in 1894. Rocky View County governs it, roughly 30 kilometres west of Calgary by Highways 8 and 22. Ranching came first, recreation grew from the 1920s, and the 2021 census counted 432 people. The Elbow River rose over its banks in 2013, and the hamlet has since rebuilt.
