About Balzac
Balzac sits just west of Highway 2 at the Highway 566 junction, roughly 24 kilometres north of Calgary’s city centre and 12 south of Airdrie. Canadian Pacific Railway president William Van Horne named it for the novelist Honoré de Balzac; the post office first used the name Beddington before the change in 1925. CrossIron Mills stands to the east, and Balzac West is a planned residential area to the west of the hamlet.
